Obituary for Fay Schins

Felicita “Fay” Schins (Martinez)

Beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, fur mom, and friend.

The world lost a beautiful soul on December 29, 2023, when Fay unexpectedly passed away. She is survived by her spouse Dieter Schins, her son Stefan Schins, her daughter Kristina Quiñones, her fur baby Cinnamon, her sister Lee Rider, her brothers Sam Martinez and Mike Martinez, and several nieces and nephews whom she cherished.

Fay was born in New York to Bernardina and Samuel Martinez and was the youngest of six children. Her family relocated to Miami, FL when she was a teenager and Fay went on to graduate high school from Southwest Miami Senior High. Although Fay moved around some as a young adult, she ultimately settled in Miami to be near her mother who she loved dearly. Fay retired from Florida International University’s Admissions Department in 2010 after having worked over 30 years for the university. She was a devote Catholic and member of St. Brendan’s church where she participated in the church’s Legion of Mary group for several years.

Fay was a nurturing mother who loved her family and children more than anything in the world. She was kind, caring, funny, and silly, with a warmth that was palpable to the people around her. She adored animals, especially dogs, and donated regularly to animal rescue causes and advocacy organizations. Fay will be profoundly missed by those who knew and loved her.
